“Celebrating Yoga” a Mobile App has been launched by Minister for Science & Technology Dr. Harshvardhan on the occasion of International Yoga Day 2017, It was developed by Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology.

  • The main objective behind development of this app is to raise popularisation of Yoga and encourage people to practice yoga for healthy life.
  • Under this initiative Cognitive Science Research Initiative (CSRI), the Department of Science & Technology (DST) had also launched “Science and Technology of Yoga and Meditation (SATYAM) ” program in 2015.

Key Facts

  • The Yoga App will be the platform for sharing information and spread awareness among participates of yoga events on the International Yoga Day 2017.
  • The mobile app will provide information about the mass yoga events which gone organised in public places, schools and office complexes across the country.
  • The app will be also connected with Google Map, so that participants can easily tress the location of yoga event.
  • The information which is collected from the mobile app will be shared with the Ministry of AYUSH to make more efforts in the area of promoting Yoga.

About International Yoga Day

  • International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June every year.
  • It is secular and international event, total 135 countries including 40 Muslim nations has participate in this celebration in order to support this global event in India.
  • International Day of Yoga was introduced in 2015 as declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014.
  • The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, because it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.
