Central Processing Centre Gets New Pin Code (Download PDF)

The Department of Post has given a unique pin code for the Income Tax Department’s Central Processing Centre based in Bengaluru, to ensure that the letters and emails sent by taxpayers to the CPC are not lost reach the centre late. The new pin code given to CPC is 560500. Earlier, the CPC was using the pin code 560100 which was marked for the entire city area of Bengaluru. The new pin code will cater exclusively to the CPC of the Income Tax department and will help in addressing the grievances of the taxpayers with respect to the issues of non-reaching of postal mails.

What is Income Tax Department?

  • It is also called as IT department and the government agency in charge of monitoring the income tax collection by the Government of India
  • It has to work under the department of Revenue of Ministry of Finance.
  • It is responsible for administering following direct taxation acts passed by Parliament of India.
  • It has these acts under its department,
  1. The Income-tax Act, 1961
  2. Expenditure Tax Act, 1987
  3. Various Finance Acts (Passed Every Year in Budget Session)
  • It enforces the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements and it deals with various aspects of international taxation such as transfer pricing
  • The Finance Act of 2002 have given the power to the department to combat aggressive tax avoidance by enforcing General Anti Avoidance Rules

CPC

  • It is the central database of the income tax department based on Bengaluru
  • It e-filed as well as postal Income Tax Returns which it processes for issuance of refunds.
  • It also deals with other tax related documents of a taxpayer.
  • It had sent email to all the people who have not paid their taxes and over 17 lakhs email and 8 lakhs postal intimations were sent
  • The demand management team was set up to inform high demand assesses about the need to rectify their returns
  • Many interactive sessions were taken by CPC
  • This played an important role in reducing paper filing of returns
  • It has also worked with the press for the education of the public on the benefits of E- filing of returns
  • Many changes have been recommended by the CPC in the income tax forms and enhancement of validations checks
