  • Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics (CEDA) was inaugurated by Union IT Minister in New Delhi. Centre was set up by National Informatics Centre (NIC) in joint initiative w/National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated (NICSI).
  • Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics believes in age of data & data is power. Information highway is equally important as national highways.
  • Data analytics has in transforming way govt. schemes are run. White paper on ‘Data Analytics in Government’ brings to front need for data-driven decision making & policy formulation in govt. across entire spectrum of its activities.

About CEDA

  • Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics (CEDA) is created to support govt. departments to unlock hidden potential of data that they are generating as part of governance processes & use it to improve overall governance.

  • Centre will help in fast-tracking adoption of advanced world-class data analytics services in govt.

  • It aims to strengthen citizen service delivery thru data-driven governance.

  • It proposes to establish strong partnerships w/academia & industry to ensure that cutting edge technologies & quality expertise are brought in to help govt. take advantage of booming analytic wave.

CEDA Will Provide Following Services to Govt. :

  • Data Quality Assurance Services: Centre will provide data profiling tools & techniques & necessary expertise to analyze data for quality issues.

  • Custom-built Data Analytics Solutions: Centre will build analytic solutions that are specific to particular problem which may relate to single or combination of departments.

  • Develop reusable assets: CEDA will build Data Analytic solutions that address generic data analytics problem that is prevalent across departments or states.

  • Knowledge Management: Centre will implement knowledge repository to collect learnings from across projects & share best practices across initiatives & will ensure usage of best practices in across govt.

  • Capacity Building & Self Service Analytics: Centre’s focus would be to train & enable dept. to do self-service analytics by simplifying data in manner in which administrator can use it w/min. technical support.

  • Change Management: Centre will help ministries in assessing impact from analytics solutions & help in understanding changes to organizational roles & responsibilities

Background of CEDA & DigiVaarta

  • Shift towards digital age, propelled by Digital India Program, has led to tremendous growth in data related to various aspects of Govt. functions & services.

  • As next logical step, govt. dept. are now looking to exploit this mount of gold mine by investing in analytical solutions that can turn this data into insights.

  • DigiVaarta App, which aims to spread awareness on DigiDhan, was launched in Delhi.

  • App aims to spread popularity of BHIM’s barcode-based merchant payment mode w/merchants & traders at large.

  • Initiative aims to enable citizen govt. dialogue & engage citizens in educational & outreach programmes.

  • App can perform many more functions beyond chat & offers audio-video tutorials.
