Lakshman Rao Inamdar or “Vakil Saheb” was born in Khatav village 130 kms south of Pune on 21st September 1917. He was third among 7 brothers and two sisters. Vakil Saheb thus learned the caring, sharing, and coexistence very early in life- making him true advocate ‘cooperation’.

  • Vakil Saheb’s father, Shri Madhav Rao’s transferable job forced constant moving from one place to other. Despite this he supported his large family and four widow sisters and their children within his meagre income.

Sahakar Bharati

  • Sahakar Bharati dream project of the late Shri Lakshman Rao Inamdar came into existence on 11 January 1979 in Mumbai (Maharashtra).

  • Shri Lakshman Rao Inamdar was an advocate and hence was always open to new ideas.

  • His ideology on cooperatives led him to found “Sahakar Bharati” with the responsibility for taking the cooperative movement soldered by Lakshman Rao Inamdar.

  • Sahakar Bharati was embedded with national fervor, cooperative mindset, and sensitivity towards poor.

Sahkar Bharti Organisation Vision

  • Builds co-operative movement as primary instrument of decentralized and labour –intensive economy promoting speedy and balanced economic growth.

  • Educate the masses about benefits of cooperative movement by organizing training camps, lectures, seminars, conferences, etc.

  • Base co-operative movement on self-sustaining and self-reliant institutions free from external control and political manipulations.

  • Sahakar Bharati envisages creating strong and devoted cadre of selfless and dedicated co-operators well equipped for spreading the co-operative movement

  • Believes that co-operative movement can act as ‘savior’ for upliftment of tribals, small farmers, landless laborers, rural artisans, technicians, and consumers from the middle and lower income groups.

Aims and Objective of Sahakar Bharati

  • Enlighten masses about benefits of the Co-Operative Movement.

  • Encourage people - at national, state, district, taluka and primary levels - to promote, form and run co-operatives.

  • Advise and help the existing co-operatives overcome working problems.

  • Assist co-operatives in forming and working with help from other State and National institutions.

  • Encourage, undertake, institute research in various fields, especially related to social, economic and co-operative sectors.

  • Provide techno-economic services to individuals, institutions, and co-operatives.

  • Undertake studies and projects to improve socio-economic conditions in rural and tribal areas.

  • Open branches for the fulfilment of the objectives of the Sahakar Bharati.

Activities of Sahkar Bharti

  • Organizes seminars, conferences, meetings, camps, sessions, and lectures to instruct, guide, educate and enlighten especially those associated with the co-operative movement.

  • Publish, print, circulate, and distribute papers, articles, periodicals, magazines, reports, books to further the co-operative movement.

  • Establish educational and training institutions to empower and train workforce associated with co-operatives.

  • Undertake projects, surveys, studies, research, and provide techno-economic services.

  • Raise funds to help individuals and institutions in carrying out allied activities.
