Lausanne, Switzerland based the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has banned Narsingh Yadav an Indian wrestler for four year from all competitive sporting events based on appeal by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) because they didn’t find any evidence which prove his claim that his food was spiked by banned doping substance.

  • He was qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 74 category of freestyle wrestling event but now Yadav is not a part of 2016 Rio Olympics. .


  • In the test Narsingh Yadav was positive for methandienone for banned substance steroid in an out-of-competition test which was conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in July 2016.
  • Methandienone is banned anabolic steroid which is used to grow protein synthesis, muscle strength and glycogenolysis over a short space of time.
  • In August 2016 he was given clean chit by NADA by accepted his claim of sabotage in doping case. CAS has concentrated its decision between WADA, NADA and Wrestler Narsingh Yadav.
  • But before the CAS ad hoc Division challenge the decision of NADA India (two positive anti-doping tests on 25th June and 5th July 2016) WADA had filed an urgent application.
  • And by refusing Narsingh Yadav’s argument CAS has banned him for 4 years.

About Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)

  • CAS is an international quasi-judicial body established which basically work to settle disputes related to sport through arbitration.
  • Its Headquarter is in Lausanne (Switzerland).
  • Its courts are located in New York, Sydney and Lausanne.
  • Based on rule 61 of the Olympic Charter it is compulsory to all arguments related to Olympic Games can only be submitted to CAS.
  • From this year 2016 an anti-doping division of CAS has full authority to judge doping cases at the Olympic Games.
  • And with this former mechanism of the IOC disciplinary commission got changed.
