Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved procurement of equipment for Defence Forces worth Rs. 9,100 cr. Upgraded Akash Weapon System is operationally critical equipment that will provide protection to vital assets.

This would include:

Procurement of 2 Regiments of Akash Missile Systems under ‘Buy (Indian) ’ Category from M/s BDL:

  • Akash Missile is upgraded version of Akash missiles & will have 3600 coverage & seeker technology & will be of compact configuration w/reduced signature.

  • Upgraded Akash Weapon System is operationally critical equipment that will provide protection to vital assets.

Design & Development of Individual Under Water Breathing Apparatus (IUWBA) for T 90 Tanks:

Developed by DRDO Lab DEBEL, IUWBA is used by crew of Tanks as safety gear & is required by Tank crew for emergency escape when negotiating water obstacles while deep fording.

Design & Development of Test Equipment for Guided Weapons System of T 90 Tank.

Test Equipment is developed by DRDO under ‘Make in India’ initiative & will be used for checking Guided Weapon System equipment checking.

Defence Acquisition Council (DAC)

  • Set up in - 2001

  • To counter corruption & speed up decision- making in military procurement.

  • It is headed by Defence Minister.

Objective:

To ensure expeditious procurement of approved requirements of Armed Forces, in terms of capabilities sought & period prescribed, by optimally utilizing allocated budgetary resources.

Functions:

  • To give policy guidelines to acquisitions based on long-term procurement plans.

  • It clears all acquisitions, which includes both imported & those produced indigenously or under foreign license.
