Link-4 of Saurashtra Narmada Avataran Irrigation Scheme (SAUNI) Yojana was inaugurated in Rajkot district, Gujarat. SAUNI Yojana is multipurpose project for solving water problems of parched Saurashtra region of Gujarat.

  • Three phases of SAUNI yojana already dedicated

SAUNI Project

  • Aims to fill up 115 major dams in Saurashtra by diverting overflow of water from Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada River providing irrigation and drinking water to Saurashtra peninsula.

  • Unique feature is pipe canals instead of conventional open canals leading to no problems with land and less loss of water.

  • Network of canals is transformed to 1, 125-km of pipelines to channel water into farms.

Saurashtra-Narmada Avataran Irrigation Yojana (Sauni Yojana) will divert one MAFt excess over flowing floodwater of Narmada to Saurashtra Region- distributing the water to 115 reservoirs of eleven districts of Saurashtra using total 1126 km long four link pipelines benefitting 10, 22, 589 acre land. These links are:

  • Link 1: From Machhu-II dam of Morbi district to Sani Dam of Jamanagar District with carrying capacity of 1200 cusecs filling 30 reservoirs of Rajkot, Morbi, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamanagar Districts through 57.67 Km long pipeline.

  • Link 2: Limbdi Bhogavo-II Dam of Surendranagar District to Raidi Dam of Amreli District with carrying capacity of 1050 cusecs filling 17 reservoirs of Bhavnagar, Botad and Amreli Districts using 51.28 Km long pipeline.

  • Link 3: From Dholidhaja Dam of Surendranagar District to Venu-I Dam of Rajkot District with carrying capacity of 1200 cusecs filling 28 reservoirs of Rajkot, Jamanagar, Dev bhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Morbi and Surendranagar Districts through 66.30 Km long pipeline.

  • Link 4: From Limbdi Bhogavo-II Dam of Surendranagar District to Hiran-II Irrigation scheme of Junagadh with carrying capacity of 1200 cusecs filling 40 reservoirs of Rajkot, Surendranagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Amreli and Botad Districts through 54.70 Km long pipeline.
