Museum collections are being digitized under the Scheme for Financial Assistance for Digitization of Museum Collections with Government so far providing financial assistance to 18 museums.

Digitization of Museum Collections

  • Scheme aims to develop a National Database of all art objects and antiquities available with museums at various levels i. e. National level, State level and regional and local museums to provide enhanced accessibility to scholars, researchers and informed visitors.
  • ArchaeologicalSurvey of India (ASI) plans to digitize all impressions of Inscriptions in a systematic way.
  • Steps have been taken to mend all the impressions for safety and legibility of each letter.
  • Thereafter action will be initiated to digitize all impressions and preserve them in a better manner for posterity.

About ASI

Functions

  • Maintenance of ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance
  • Regulate all archaeological activities in the country as per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.
  • Regulate Antiquities and Art Treasure Act, 1972.

Functioning

  • For maintaining ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains country is divided into 24 Circles.
  • Trained archaeologists, conservators, epigraphist and scientists conduct research projects through Circles, Museums, Excavation Branches, Prehistory Branch, Epigraphy Branches, Science Branch, Horticulture Branch, Building Survey Project, Temple Survey Projects and Underwater Archaeology Wing.
