The Union Government has announced Rs. 207 crore to undertake developmental works in Assam’s Majuli Island. The sanctioned amount will be spent primarily for safeguarding the land the 80 km length of the bank line on the right bank of river Brahmaputra.

Highlights

  • The Union Minister of State for Water Resources had announced an Rs. 260 crore package for Majuli, earlier in September.
  • State government has also announced a package of Rs. 1,400 crore.
  • DoNER announced Rs. 207 crores package for protection and development of Majuli.
