  • EESL is the implementation agency for the Buildings Energy Efficiency Programme launched in May 2017 by Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, Mines & New & Renewable Energy
  • EESL intends to bring in investment of around 1000 crore covering more than 10,000 large government and private buildings by 2020.
  • Also aims to widen its services in areas like centralized AC system, energy audits, and new generation energy management system in buildings.
  • Usage of LED based lightings and energy efficient cooling equipment such as fans and air conditioners
  • Leads to savings in the end through reduction in energy consumption
  • Department of Expenditure under Ministry of Finance took up services of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) , a joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power
  • With the Buildings Programme, EESL aims to enhance the savings portfolio and ensure energy security for each citizen.
  • Present savings through 28 completed building projects across seven states are estimated to be over 11.03 MU.

Buildings Energy Efficiency Programme Business Models

  • The ESCO (Energy Servicing Company) model- entire upfront investment is made by EESL paid back by the building owner out of the resulting energy savings
  • The PMC (Project Management Consultancy) model- EESL is the project management consultant for implementation but client invests the entire project cost and bears one-time PMC charges of EESL.

National LED Programme

  • Facilitate rapid adoption of LED based home and street lighting across the country.
  • The programme components: Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All (UJALA) and Street Lighting National Programme (SNLP) of EESL currently under implementation in 29 States and 7 Union Territories.

What is Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EEsL) ?

A Joint Venture Company of PSUs of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India with following objectives:

  • Carry out and promote Energy Efficiency and climate change including manufacture and supply of energy efficiency services and products.
  • Implement energy efficiency projects for Demand Side Measures including municipal functions, agriculture, public building, lighting etc.
  • Implement schemes, programs, and policies of central and state governments or its agencies.
  • Carry out such other activities of Central Govt. , State Govt. , Bureau of Energy Efficiency related to the Energy Efficiency and climate change.
  • Partner with private ESCO՚s to promote energy efficiency.
  • Provide consultancy services in the field of CDM projects, Carbon Markets, Demand Side Management, Energy Efficiency, Climate change, and related areas.
  • Identify and impart training to build the capacity of stakeholders.
  • Act as a resource center in the field of Energy Efficiency
  • Take up Capacity Building Training and related activities
