EPFO Launches New Facilities for UAN- Aadhaar Linking (Download PDF)

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation introduced a UAN-Aadhaar linking facility for members using EPFO Link in the UMANG mobile app. In addition to the existing web facility already available at EPFO’s website- it will provide convenience to UMANG Mobile App users.

  • Linking UAN to Aadhaar can make the claims settlement process easier.

Ways to Link UAN and Aadhaar?

There are three way to link UAN to Aadhaar, provided the UAN is active:

  • Using UMANG App

  • Using biometric credentials on e-KYC Portal of EPFO

  • Using OTP Verification on e-KYC Portal of EPFO

What is UAN?

  • UAN has been made mandatory for all employees and it helps in managing the EPF account, and has made transferring and withdrawing PF money easier.

  • The employer provides the UAN and the employee just has to get it activated by providing relevant know-your-customer (KYC) documents to the employer.

  • It is a one-time permanent number that will remain the same throughout one’s career.

What is UMANG?

  • The UMANG app provides a unified platform where multiple government services (central, state and regional), including those from EPFO, can be accessed by the user.

  • UMANG or Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance is a Government of India all-in-one single unified secure multi-channel multi-platform multi-lingual multi-service freeware mobile app.

  • It is used for accessing over 1,200 central and state government services in multiple Indian languages for services such as

    • AADHAR

    • DigiLocker

    • Bharat Bill Payment System

    • PAN

    • EPFO services

    • PMKVY services

    • AICTE

    • CBSE

    • Tax and fee or utilities bills payments

    • Education

    • Job search

    • Tax

    • Business

    • Health,

    • Agriculture

    • Travel

    • Indian railway tickets bookings

    • Birth certificates

    • e-District

    • e-Panchayat

    • Police clearance

    • Passport

  • Other utility services from private companies and much more.

  • This a key component of Digital India government initiative to make all traditional offline government services available 24/7 online through single unified app.

  • App is initially available in 13 language and will replace or compliment 1500 apps launched by the government so far

What is EPFO?

  • The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (abbreviated to EPFO), is an Organization tasked to assist the Central Board of Trustees.

  • EPFO assists the Central Board in administering a compulsory contributory Provident Fund Scheme, a Pension Scheme and an Insurance Scheme for the workforce engaged in the organized sector in India.

  • It is also the nodal agency for implementing Bilateral Social Security Agreements with other countries on a reciprocal basis.

  • The schemes cover Indian workers as well as International workers

Key Facts

  • EPFO has also introduced a new composite form called Form 11, which will replace Form 13 in all cases of auto transfer.

  • Employees are required to file Form-13 for provident fund account transfer on changing jobs. The EPFO has decided that Form 11 will replace Form No 13 in all cases of auto transfer.

  • Aadhaar based eSign is being provided to members free of cost by EPFO. Only member’s mobile number should be linked with Aadhaar. This functionality will also be made available on UMANG mobile app soon.

  • EPFO has also launched e-Nomination facility for filing nomination form by the member. This functionality is available at Member Interface of EPFO Unified Portal (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/). Any member having activated and Aadhaar seeded UAN, can avail this facility.
