The Energy Conservation Building Code 2017 (ECBC 2017) has been launched by Shri Piyush Goyal the Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines. Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has developed the ECBC 2017 which will prescribe the energy performance standards for all those commercial buildings with technical support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

  • ECBC 2017 is also meant to improve energy savings at comfort levels for occupants and to achieve energy neutrality it suggests life-cycle cost effectiveness in commercial buildings.
  • ECBC Code 2017 is originally dedicated to the young children of India to ensure their future and now it is upon us to craftily use every bit of resource and also support government in the implementation of such progressive and forward looking programmes.
  • In ECBC-compliant new building must have to show minimum energy savings of 25%.
  • Later the new buildings will be mediated by energy efficiency performance to accomplish higher grades such as ECBC Plus (35 % energy saving) or Super ECBC (50 % energy saving).
  • ECBC 2017 adaptation for all new commercial building across the country will reduce use of 50 % energy till 2030.
  • This decision will save Rs. 35, 000 crore and 250 million tonnes of CO2 reduction.
  • BEE has developed ECBC 2017 with technical support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
