Ex-Drdo Dg Dr Avinash Chander is Honored with Aryabhata Award [ ]


Dr Avinash Chander a former DRDO Director-General (DG) has been awarded with prestigious Aryabhata Award of Astronautically Society of India for his contribution to missile technology. Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to Union Government, and Dr A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman ISRO has honored him with this award.

About Avinash Chander:

  • Avinash Chander is popularly known as Agni man of India.
  • He has served as chief architect of India’s strategic Agni series of ballistic missile systems.
  • India’s Agni missiles range was developed under his technology forecast, perspective planning and relentless efforts.
  • He has directed the first three missions of the Agni 5 missile.
  • He had completed his Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1972 and then he had joined DRDO.
  • He gets retirement in 2015 after completion of 42 years of distinguished service.
  • From 2013 to 2015 he had served as DG of DRDO.
