Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP)

  • Main objective is to prepare 2nd tier academic heads who are potentially likely to assume leadership roles in future.
  • It will make Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) perform their roles of developing better students who will be future torch bearers.
  • It will be implemented thru 15 National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) top ranked Indian Institutions: IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IISER Kolkata, NIT Trichy, JNU; IIT (BHU), Delhi University, TISS Mumbai, University of Hyderabad, NIEPA, Jamia Milia Islamia, BHU and AMU.
  • Foreign universities identified for training collaboration are w/I top 100 in world global rankings. It includes University of Michigan, Harvard University, Oxford University, University of Cambridge, Purdue University, University of Chicago, NTU Singapore, Monash University, University of Pennsylvania & University of Virginia.

Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) ‘Program of MHRD’S Innovation Cell

  • IIC Program of MHRD Innovation Cell was launched in New Delhi. HRD Ministry has established Innovation cell at AICTE w/purpose to systematically foster culture of Innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across country.

  • Significant step in institutionalizing innovation & developing scientific temperament in country.
  • Purpose of formation of network of IICs is to encourage, inspire & nurture young students by exposing them to new ideas & processes resulting in innovative activities in their formative years.
  • More than 1000 HEIs have formed IICs in their campuses & enrolled for IIC network managed by MHRD’s Innovation cell to promote innovation thru multitudinous modes leading to innovation promotion eco-system in their campuses.
  • Thru this initiative, India hopes to get good rank in global innovation ranking in next 2 - 3 years.
  • Innovation Cell has undertaken many initiatives for educational advancement in higher education for encouraging best practices in innovation & advance research.
  • For this, it has implemented programs like Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement (ARIIA), Smart India Hackathon (SIH) - 2019, etc.

National Institute of Homeopathy at Narela

  • Minister of State for AYUSH laid foundation stone of National Institute of Homeopathy at Narela. This will be National level Institute & would be established as extension of National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata.

  • NIH, Narela will be established in 10 acres of land which is taken over from DDA.
  • Total ground coverage area will be 50000 square meter.
  • Institute is proposed to be 100 bedded hospital & centre of excellence in quality education & research.
  • Total cost of project would be Rs. 302 cr.

Significance of National Institute of Homoeopathy

  • Institute will offer PG courses in 7 disciplines.
  • Intake of PG students will be 7 students per Dept. per Academic Year.
  • Intake of PhD students will be 10 students per year.
  • OPD part of hospital will consists of general & speciality clinic.
  • It is targeting PG & PhD level teaching to fill up gap in high quality research & treatment in Homoeopathy.

  • Ma. Po. Si’s literary expositions were immaculate & he delved into ‘Silappathikaram’ & helped spread epic throughout Tamil Nadu.

  • Ma. Po. Si was staunch believer in strengthening traditional roots thru extensive use of mother tongues. Engum Tamil - Edhilum Tamil” meaning “Tamil Everywhere - Tamil Everything”.

VS Naipaul, Fiery Novelist and Nobel Laureate

  • Indian origin writer & famous British novelist Sir V. S. Naipaul died in London on 12th Aug. 2018. Naipaul was known as ‘Sir Videya’ among fans. He has written insensitivity on imp. issues like colonialism, idealism, religion & politics.

Nobel Prize Awarded

  • V. S. Naipaul was awarded Booker Prize in 1971 & Nobel Prize for literature in 2001.
  • He got title of knighthood for literary contribution in 1990.
  • He was only other writer of Indian or Indian origin to receive Nobel literature of literature after Rabindranath Tagore.
  • ‘The Times’ gave Naipaul 7th in list of 50 great British authors in 2008.

About V. S. Naipaul

  • Full name was Vidyadhar Suraj Prasad Naipaul. Born on 17th Aug. , 1932 in Indian Hindu family in Trinidad.
  • After 18 years of schooling he went to Oxford to study. He settled in England after studying at University College, Oxford. They have great fame in the writing world.
  • He took more than 3 years to write his most famous novel ‘A House for Mr. Biswas’.
  • Naipaul wrote books like ‘N Area of ​​Darkness’ & ‘A Wounded Civilization’ on subjects like India’s history, culture & civilization.
