The President of India inaugurated Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FINE) in New Delhi. He also presented Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Awards. The festival aims to celebrate creativity and innovations.

FINE

  • FINE is an initiative to recognize, respect, display, reward innovations and foster supportive ecosystem for innovators.

  • The 5-day festival was organized by Rashtrapati Bhavan in association with Department of Science and Technology (DST) and National Innovation Foundation-India (NIFI).

  • It aimed to provide platform for innovators for building linkages with potential stakeholders whose support can improve their prospects in coming years to develop their ideas into implementable projects for the larger social good.

  • It had about 250 exhibits by the award winners, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

  • India is perhaps the only country where the head of the state hosts such a festival at his/her house.

  • The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India participated in the event.

  • The innovation clubs at different universities, colleges, institutions and schools will share their activities through posters and innovative exhibits.

  • FINE would provide platform to the innovators for building the linkages with potential stakeholders whose support can improve their prospects in coming years

Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Awards

  • 23 innovators received the awards from the President

  • The awarded innovations ranged from smart device to assist the blind, rolling water filters, cost effective engine intake air filters to natural polymers that can retain water, solar cooker.

  • There were grassroots innovations like a shock absorbing stretcher, a pen that could count words while writing an examination and innovation by children like a dust collecting attachment for drill machine, an app that can help track Alzheimer’s patients.

  • This year 2, 915 entries were received in 54 technology domains from 312 universities institutes belonging to 34 states and Union Territories.

  • Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Awards celebrates the spirit of student innovation in all the fields of engineering, science, technology and design through extremely affordable/frugal solution or the ones pushing the technological edge.

  • It is a SRISTI initiative to foster youth-driven tech innovations. The Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Awards will be given in March, during the Festival of Innovations and entrepreneurship (FINE).

  • It would give global visibility to the idea of Indian tech youth and promote, hopefully collaborations worldwide.
