Objectives of Think Tank

Think tank on the Framework for National Policy on E-commerce will seek to collectively deliberate the challenges confronting India in arena of digital economy w/view to developing recommendations for comprehensive & overarching national policy on e-commerce.

Some issues discussed by think tank include:

  • physical & digital infrastructure

  • regulatory regime

  • taxation policy

  • data flows

  • server localisation

  • intellectual property rights protection

  • FDI

  • technology flows

  • responding to disruptions in industrial organisation

  • need for skill development

  • trade-related aspects.

Developments on e-commerce at World Trade Organisation (WTO) & evolving appropriate national position on underlying issues, would be another important dimension of discussions of think tank on Framework for National Policy on E-commerce.

Details on Ecommerce Think Tank

  • Setup by department of commerce, think tank comprises representatives from 50 organisations- both government & private, to provide forum to nurture domestic firms & create jobs in e-commerce.

Department of Commerce:

  • Mandate of Department of Commerce is regulation, development & promotion of India’s international trade & commerce.

  • Basic role of Department is to facilitate creation of enabling environment & infrastructure for accelerated growth of international trade.
