Food Processing Ministry to Collaborate with International Labs for Wider Acceptability of NIFTEM (Download PDF)

Ministry will collaborate w/multiple international laboratories testing various food products so that food products approved by laboratories at National Institute of Food Entrepreneurship & Management (NIFTEM) get worldwide acceptability. This was announced in NIFTEM Institute in Sonipath, Haryana.

Facilities Inaugurated at NIFTEM:

  • Pilot Plant for Ready-to-Eat and Traditional Food: It will help entrepreneurs to bring either new or improved product on market by providing necessary know-how for RTE & Traditional Food Technology. It has 2 main parts: food preparation equipment cooked in continuous process & laminate packaging facility.

  • Pilot Plant for Milk and Dairy Product: It is very well equipped w/new technologies, safety measures, utilities, skilled manpower, licenses require to process food products. Same facilities may be use for ‘Hands on Training’ to students so that they may aware existing processes & practices adopted by large industries thru production & demonstration on small scale. These facilities may enhance knowledge of stakeholders of milk production system for effective backward linkages.

  • Pilot Plant for Fruits and Vegetable processing: It will provide state of the art facilities for storing fresh fruits & vegetables like CA & MA storage as well as refrigerated storage. Hands on training to start ups & exposure to students will be provided for tomato ketchup, puree, canning, spray drying, freeze drying, diff. types of packaging, IQF etc. Small & Medium Enterprises can be use these facilities for their production.

  • Pilot Plant for Meat and Poultry Processing: It will act as incubation centre where budding entrepreneurs/start-ups or entrepreneurs can utilize facilities to tap market while not having to invest in costly equipment & machineries themselves.

  • NIFTEM Centre for Food Research and Analysis: Laboratory would serve as Centre for certification of food products & as centre for undertaking research & innovation for solving problems of food industry & other stake holders of food sector. Center would work in unison w/regulators & policy makers for providing them all support for developing standard test protocols for various parameters of quality essential for domestic & international market & would serve as National Reference facility in years to come.

NIFTEM would develop its own brand under which it could market products developed at institute. Products would be cheaper, fresher & healthier that other products. Institute would become centre for excellence.

Farmer from nearby areas are able to learn processing & packaging at institute.

Students from NIFTEM learn theory & because of industry partnerships, learn what industry wants.
