Rio Olympian Thanackal Gopi won men’s title in second edition of IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon. While Monika Athare claimed honors in women’s section. Half marathon title won by G Lakshamanan. Manju Yadav won women’s half marathon title.

Highlights

  • Rio Olympian Gopi won men’s full marathon. Clocking 2 hours, 15 minutes and 37 seconds.
  • Gopi is from Army Sports Institute in Pune, has already qualified for World Athletics Championships to be held in London in August 2017.
  • Bahadur Singh Dhoni, also from Army Sports Institute, finished race at second position, while TH Sanjith was third.
  • In women’s full marathon, Monika Athare from Nashik completed race in 2 hours, 39 minutes and 08 seconds. She has also qualified for World Championships breaching entry standard.
  • Athare was followed by Jyoti Gawate in second position, while Ranjan Kumari finished at third position.
  • Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and legendary distance runner Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia flagged off all categories of New Delhi Marathon.

Winners of half marathon

  • Men’s title: G Lakshamanan won title in men’s half marathon. Man Singh was second and Olympian marathoner Kheta Ram was third.
  • Women’s title: Manju Yadav won women’s half marathon. Arpita Saini was second and Neetu Singh was third.
