The Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing various schemes/programmes for empowerment of women and development of children across the country. The details of those schemes are as follows:

Schemes for ‘Women Empowerment’

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)

  • This schemes targets declining child sex ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment over a life-cycle continuum.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

  • It is a maternity benefit programme

  • Provides cash incentives to pregnant and nursing mothers for improvement of health and nutrition.

Schemes for Adolescent Girls

  • The target of this scheme is girls in the age group of 11 - 18.

  • The aim is to empower and improve their social status through

  • Nutrition

  • Life skills

  • Home skills

  • Vocational training

Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra

  • It aims to promote community participation for empowerment of rural women through involvement of student volunteers.

National Creche

  • It is a scheme to provide day care facilities for working women’s children who are in the age group of 6 months to 6 years.

Rastriya Mahila Kosh (RMK)

  • It is a scheme to provide micro credit to poor women.

  • The credit is provided for various livelihood support and income generating activities.

  • The credit is provided at concessional terms in a client-friendly procedure.

  • This schemes aims to improve the socio-economic status of the women.

Swadhar Greh

  • It is a scheme to provide relief and rehabilitation to destitute women and women in distress.
  • It envisages providing shelter, food, clothing, and healthcare to them

Ujjawala

  • It is a comprehensive scheme for victims of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation.

  • It aims at

  • prevention of trafficking

  • rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, and repatriation of victims

Working Women Hostels

  • The scheme aims to provide safe accommodation for working women who are away from their place of residence.

  • Under this scheme, 2 hostels are sanctioned in Himachal Pradesh and two new proposals have been received by the Government of India.

Schemes of One Stop Centre and Women Helpline (WH)

  • These schemes facilitate access to an integrated range of services.

  • These schemes are for women who are affected by violence.

  • Some of the services provided under this scheme are

  • Medical aid

  • Police assistance

  • Legal aid and case management

  • Psychosocial counseling

  • Temporary support services

Gender Budgeting Scheme

  • The Scheme helps in strengthening of institutional mechanisms and training of various stakeholders
