Government has decided to open 56 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) at different locations in various states. It is for delivering passport related services to people. States include Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi (UT), Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and West Bengal.

Highlights

  • Union External Affairs Ministry and Department of Posts had announced to utilize Head Post Offices in various States as POPSK.
  • Objective of this partnership is to extend passport services on a larger scale and ensure wider area coverage.
  • Earlier first project was started on a pilot basis at Mysuru in Karnataka and Dahod in Gujarat.
  • Currently passports are issued at 37 locations across country and at 162 Indian diplomatic missions abroad.
  • Consular Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of Ministry of External Affairs is responsible for issuing Indian passports on demand to all eligible Indian citizens.

  • There are three types of passports available in India

    • Regular Indian passport
    • Official Indian passport
    • Diplomatic Indian passport
  • All three are used chiefly for travel, holder’s designation or nature of foreign travel and its mission are three apart.
  • There is yet another travel document issued by Indian Government called as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card which is provided to an Indian native who has migrated to and settled in another country.
