Gujarat assembly approved a bill banning hookah bars. Operating a hookah bar will be a criminal offence warranting a maximum of three-year imprisonment and Rs. 50, 000 fine. Running hookah bar in Gujarat will be considered as punishable.

  • As per Bill, running a hookah bar in Gujarat will be considered as an offence punishable.
  • Ordinance was being brought to save youth of Gujarat from addiction of hookah which severely affects human body compared to cigarettes.

  • Recently, Jadeja said, 78 hookah bars were closed down by Ahmedabad police in city.
  • Ordinance proposing to amend Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and also Distribution) Act, 2003, popularly known as COTPA.
