Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), South Asia Regional Center (ISARC) at campus of National Seed Research and Training Center (NSRTC) in Varanasi.

  • Centre of Excellence in Rice Value Addition (CERVA) to be set up in Varanasi
  • Modern laboratory to determine quality and status of heavy metals in grain and straw.
  • Enable capacity building across the rice value chain
  • First international center in eastern India for harnessing and sustaining rice production.

Management of ISARC

ISARC operates under the governance of the IRRI Board of Trustees with appropriate IRRI staff member as Director.

About National Seed Research and Training Centre

  • Established by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare
  • For conducting field experiments & grow out tests in off-season.
  • The prime objective to have a separate National Seed Quality Control Laboratory serving as a Central Seed Testing Laboratory (CSTL)
  • CSTL to keep uniformity in seed testing among all State Seed Testing Laboratories at the national level
  • Referral Laboratory for court referred seed samples
  • Member laboratory of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) Switzerland.
  • Monitor seeds from various seed selling points
  • Organizes the National trainings, workshops for personnel involved in Seed Development and Quality control programme
