ISRO has launched a Solar Calculator application that allows for accurate calculation of the benefit of installing solar panels at any location in the country. The App provides monthly/yearly solar potential (in kWh/m2) and minimum/maximum temperature at any location Global warming and climate change have become important buzzwords worldwide.

ISRO Launches Solar Calculator App

About the App

  • The app decides solar energy potential (in kWh/m2) at any given location.
  • App is of great help in setting up photovoltaic thermal power plants
  • GPS helps in trapping down the location of the user
  • The app delivers monthly and yearly solar potential by processing data acquired from Indian Geostationary Satellites like
  • The app provides other useful information as well like elevation angles and daytime duration over different time periods in a year
  • It also calculates the obstacle of sunlight due to territory by employing Digital Elevation Model (DEM)
  • The app also suggests the optimum tilt angle for the installation of solar PV
  • The app provides information which is easy to understand and interpret using tables and visuals
  • The complete report provided by the app can be saved by the user in the form of a PDF file
  • The data can be viewed in three ways, as a
  • The application is available on the web and for the Android platform
  • The Android application is a small file, less than 2 MB in size
  • The solar calculator can be downloaded from the website vedas. sac. gov. in
  • The request of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
