India Ascends to 2nd Rank in Global Business Optimism Index

India ranked second in the global business optimism index during the third quarter (July-September 2016) according to Grant Thornton International Business Report. India has improved its ranking by one spot in the index.

  • Prepared based on a quarterly conducted global business survey of 2,500 businesses in 36 economies.
  • In second quarter (April-June 2016) India was ranked third in terms of revenue expectations after being on top for 2 consecutive quarters.

Key Aspects

  • Indonesia took top place and Philippines came third.
  • Adaptation of Goods and Services tax (GST) contributed to improvement of rank.
  • Highlights reform agenda of the government and its efforts in improving the climate for doing business.
  • 68% of respondents voted for an increase in selling prices
  • China lags India with only 10% of respondents expecting an increase in selling prices - global average is 19% .
  • Universally, business optimism stands at net 33% , rising 1% point from the previous quarter but has fallen by 11% points over the year.
