  • The Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI) is partnering with the government of Maharashtra for its mission to create AI solutions for social impact. The Maharashtra government will help the institute identify problems, and test and scale the solutions.
  • Founded by Indian-American tech entrepreneurs Dr. Romesh Wadhwani and Mr. Sunil Wadhwani, the institute will be led by AI pioneer and founding MD of Microsoft Research India, Dr. P. Anandan.
  • The institute will be based at the Kalina campus of the Mumbai University.

Which Institutes Will Collaborate with this Institute?

Institute will collaborate with renowned education and research centers such as

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

  • Stanford, University of Southern California, NYU

  • University of Washington

  • Alan Turing Institute

  • IIT Bombay

  • IIT Madras

  • IIT Delhi, among others.

Contribution of Wadhwani brothers

What is Artificial Intelligence?

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence (NI) displayed by humans and other animals.

  • AI research is study of “intelligent agents” any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving its goals.

  • The term “artificial intelligence” is applied when a machine mimics “cognitive” functions that humans associate with other human minds such as “learning” and “problem solving”.

  • Successfully understanding human speech

  • Competing at the highest level in strategic games systems (such as chess)

  • Intelligent routing in content delivery networks, military simulations, and interpreting complex data, including images and videos.

  • The traditional problems (or goals) of AI research include reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, natural language, processing, perception and the ability to move and manipulate objects.
