Indian Institute of Skills Foundation Stone Laid in Mumbai

The foundation stone for Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) at Mumbai, Maharashtra was laid down by the Union Minister of state for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on 11th Sept 2019. This concept of establishing IIS was brought in from Singapore on Indian Prime Minister՚s visit to the Vocational Educational and Training Centre in Singapore.

Indian Institute of Skills Objectives and Partners

  • The Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) will be set up in 3 cities namely, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kanpur to promote to the Skill India Mission.
  • Based on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model, the institute of skills will be set up.
  • One of the main objectives is to train highly specialised areas to students who want to pursue technical education after completing Class X and XII apart from making them employable and industry ready.
  • The objective is also to ensure that 5,000 trainees will be passed out every year with 70% placement opportunities.
  • The IIS is also expected to provide best required courses in emerging and high demand areas such as deep technology, aerospace.
  • The IIS will work on the lines of IITs and IIMs.
  • The modern training methodologies using digital and augmented learning platforms will be used in these institutes.
  • As a private partner Tata Education Development Trust (TEDT) was selected for setting up IIS at NSTI campus in Mumbai.
  • The selection of TEDT was based on the bidding process.
  • An investment of ₹ 300 crore is being made by Tata Group along 4.5 acre campus.
  • For a period of 25 years, the Government has provided land to TEDT for the institute. This also includes comprehensive project reviews every 5 years mapping performance outcome.
