India’s navy successfully test fired its first surface-to-air Barak missile from its aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. The test firing, conducted in the Arabian Sea. The missile was fired against a live low flying high speed target.

About INS Vikramaditya

  • Vikramaditya meaning “Brave as the Sun” is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier which entered into service with the Indian Navy in 2013.
  • INS Vikramaditya was acquired from Russia for over Rs. 15000 crore.
  • The carrier was purchased by India on 20 January 2004.
  • The aircraft carrier was dedicated to the nation after nearly 10 years.
  • The ship was commissioned by the then Union Defence Minister AK Antony.
  • Ceremony held at Severodvinsk, Russia.
