Integrated Coastal Zone Management Program

The pollution which is created by the humans at the coastal areas making beaches dirty and the oceans are filling with pollution. To address these issues, the integrated coastal zone management program was launched. It is working under the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change. Under this program, they are working predominantly on the issues like waste management, energy conservation and resource efficiency.

Overview

  • Integrated Coastal Zone Management program was implemented for the interactive and addressing issues in the coastal areas.
  • It looking for long term, balanced Environment, economic, social, cultural objectives.
  • The programme was also implemented to create awareness of coastal zone vulnerability and risks.
  • Integrated Coastal Zone management program was launched by the Society of Integrated coastal management (SICOM) under the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change.
  • MoEFCC selected 13 coastal beaches from states⟋UTs for the certification of Blue Flag programme.
  • Bhogve beach in Maharashtra, Shivrajpur in Gujarat, Ghoghala in Diu, padubidri in Karnataka, Miramar in Goa, Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, Tajpur in west Bengal, Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrabhaga in Odisha, Radhanagar in Andaman and Nocobar, Kappad in Kerala, Emerald in Puducherry and Bangaram in Lakshadweep are the beaches developed under the SICOM Blue Flag Programme.
  • Blue Flag Programme run by the international nonprofit NGO organization Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) .

Ghoghla Beach

  • This golden sand beach is situated in the Ghoghla (village) which extends into the neighbouring state of Gujarat. This is also Diu՚s largest beach.
  • Solid waste management plant was installed in this beach.
  • There is a separate dustbin for dry and wet waste for easy segregation of waste.
  • Waste management staff of the beach continuously monitoring the waste around the beach and removing it.
  • These are machines to clean the beach.
  • The waste which is collected at the beach, with the help of Hot Air Dryer Segregate waste into degradable and non degradable waste.
  • The biodegradable waste to put into the solid waste management machine it will produce compost within 24 hours.
  • This is used by the plants as organic manure.
  • This project also helping in the Employment generation.
