British actor Roger Moore, best known for his role as James Bond in films such as “Live and Let Die” and “The Spy Who Loved Me”, passed away in Switzerland after a brief battle with cancer. The star was pictured last year entertaining an audience at the Royal Festival Hall.

  • The family said that they will hold a private funeral in Monaco, where the actor lived.
  • The veteran star, will have a private funeral in Monaco in accordance with his wishes, his children said.
  • Moore was best known for playing the third incarnation of James Bond as well as his roles in hit shows The Saint and The Persuaders.
  • The actor was born in London in 1927 and, after working as a model in the early 50s.
  • He signed a seven-year contract with MGM.
  • Tributes to Sir Roger have been led by The James Bond International Fan Club, which has said “nobody did Bond better”
  • He went onto star in another six films as 007 over a period of 12 years, making him the longest running actor in the role.

About Roger Moore:

  • He is best known for playing secret agent James Bond in seven feature films between 1973 and 1985.
  • He also played Simon Templar in the television series The Saint between 1962 and 196.
  • Appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991.
