Kersti Kaljulaid was appointed the first Estonia’s female president of the Baltic Country by the parliament of Estonia with 81-0 vote. 20 members were absent in the parliamentary voting.

  • With this she will be fifth President of Estonia.
  • She will join office from 10th October 2016.
  • She is the youngest person ever to be elected as President of Estonia
  • She will replace Toomas Hendrik Ilves
  • The President of the Republic of Estonia is the head of state of the Republic of Estonia.

About Kersti Kaljulaid

  • Kersti Kaljulaid was born on 30th December 1969 in Tartu, Estonia.
  • She is biologist and has specialized in genetics. She has also completed MBA from University of Tartu.
  • She served as an investment banker in 1990s at Hansapank (later taken over by Swedbank).
  • She joined the office of former Estonian Prime Minister Mart Laar as economic policy adviser in 1999
  • From 2011 she was serving as the representative of Estonia in the European Court of Auditors (ECA).
