Famous Madhavpur Mela of Gujarat will see its 1st cultural integration w/North-East to share its roots. Mela is being held from 25th March to 28th March at Madhavpur Ghed in Porbandar dist. of Gujarat.

  • Purpose of this integration is to bring various parts of country, especially NE, close to each other under banner of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”.

Links with North-East

Madhavpur Mela shares connection to Mishmi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.

  • Mishmi tribe traces its lineage to legendary King Bhishmak & thru him to his daughter Rukmini & Lord Krishna. For 1st ever, festival will celebrate immortal journey which Rukmini undertook from AP to Gujarat w/Lord Krishna in Bhismaknagar, located near Roing in Lower Dibang Valley dist. , mention in Kalika Purana.

  • IGNCA, Manav Sangrahalay of Ministry of Culture & States of Gujarat, Assam, AP, Manipur & others are joined hands to give a new dimension to festival.

  • Jatha of 150 persons from the NE will be given traditional welcome at Madhavpur Mela as representatives of Rukmini’s family.

Details on Festivities

  • Entire concept of celebration this year symbolizes unity in diversity of country & establishes East to West connect.
  • All States & Union Territories except West Bengal are participating in Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat campaign.
  • They are paired for the purpose of exchanges at the level of students, sports & thru culture.
  • Some of local sites & temples connected to Madhavpur festival are upgraded by Ministry of Culture & connecting NE thru such kind of events & cultural exchanges will now be made a regular feature.
  • Four-day event will see vibrant cultural trail of art, dance, music, poetry, story-telling & folk drama from AP, Manipur & other NE States w/aim to integrate rich cultures of two regions.

About Madhavpur Ghed

  • Madhavpur Ghed is small & culturally significant village. Village is located on seashore, close to Porbandar. 15th -century Madhavrai temple marks the site.

Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Campaign:

  • It was launched by PM Narendra Modi on Ekta Diwas (31st October 2016) on occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

Objectives of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat:

  • To Celebrate Unity in Diversity of our Nation & to maintain & strengthen fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds b/w people of Country.

Mishmi & Idu Mishmi People:

  • People of Tibet & AP are known as Mishmi People.

  • They are ethnic group comprising 3 tribes: Idu Mishmi, Digaro Tribe, Miju Mishmi.

  • Idu-Mishmi inhabit Lohit dist. , Dibang Valley & Lower Dibang Valley dist.

  • They speak Tibeto-Burman language.

  • Major festivals of Idus are ‘Reh’ & ‘Ke-meh-ha’.

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts

  • Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is premier govt. -funded arts organization in India.

  • It was established on November 1985 in memory of Indian PM Indira Gandhi by PM Rajiv Gandhi.

  • Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts Trust was constituted at New Delhi on March 1987.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is anthropology museum.

It is located at Shyamla Hills at Bhopal.
