In a significant progress towards the field of Defence and Security, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Indian Army and Tata Realty & Housing on 22 Aug 2019. The army Personnels are entitled to immediately take over dwelling units in 13 ‘Ready to Move in’ projects of Tata Realty pan India. This housing plan is spreaded over 10 cities including Gurugram, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune among others at a discount ranging from 11 % to 27%.

Understanding Overview

  • The signing of the MOU has set up new goals for Army Welfare Housing Organization (AWHO).

  • The AWHO has always tried its best to provide quality housing for personnel in Indian Army who are deployed in remote locations across country.

  • With the signing of MOU from now onwards the army Welfare housing Organization will facilitate acquisition of homes from reputed private builders at discounted rather than building them for soldiers.

AWHO (Army Welfare Housing Organization)

  • Formed in December 1978 this society aims at constructing structurally sound, economically viable and functionally efficient dwelling units for serving the retired Army personnel and their widows along the selected locations and stations throughout India.

  • It comes under Indian Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.

  • AWHO works on ‘NO PROFIT NO LOSS’ basis for constructing houses for the serving or retired Army Personnels along with their widows.

  • The AWHO board of governors consist of senior army officers.

  • One of the most reputed and important position is that of the Adjutant-General. The Adjutant-General acts as the senior administration officer who is responsible for reporting to the Chief of Army Staff.
