Water Productivity Mapping of Major Indian Crops:

  • Book ‘Water productivity mapping of major Indian crops’ is about study on 10 major crops done by team lead by eminent agricultural economist Dr. Ashok Gulati.

  • 10 major crops are: rice, wheat, maize, pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane, cotton & potato etc.

Recommendations from the Book

  • Book recommends to realign cropping pattern w/focus on water scarcity of irrigation, ration irrigation supplies in canal irrigation system, enhance micro-irrigation & invest in water harvesting & artificial recharge & promote participatory irrigation management thru water user association & farmer’s producer organisation.

  • He said that, proposal for 3 projects at Tuticorin, Paradip & Kandla for desalination of sea water for irrigational & other uses is under consideration.
