Approval for Memorandum of Understanding between India & Finland on cooperation infield of peaceful uses of outer space has been given its approval by Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister. MoU has already been signed on10th January, 2019 at New Delhi.

Impact

  • MoU will provide impetus to explore newer research activities & application possibilities infield of remote sensing of earth; satellite communication; satellite navigation; space science & exploration of outer space has been signed.

  • Cooperation with Government of Finland would lead to develop joint activity infield of application of space technologies for benefit of humanity.

Details

  • Memorandum of Understanding shall enable following potential interest areas of cooperation such as,

  • Remote sensing of earth

  • Satellite communication & satellite based navigation

  • Space science & planetary exploration

  • Development, testing & operation of space objects & ground system

  • Launching of Finnish Space objects by Indian launch vehicles

  • Processing & use of space data

  • Developing innovative applications & solutions based on space technologies & use of artificial intelligence

  • Cooperation around emerging New Space opportunities & data ecosystems & sustainable used of outer space.

  • The Participants or upon their authority, implementing agencies, may set up project teams if necessary, to manage specific cooperative projects taken up under implementing arranGeMents, under this MoU.

Implementation Strategy & Targets:

  • Participants will each nominate coordinator for purpose of coordinating cooperative activities under this MoU. In order to facilitate implementation of this MoU, Participants could meet on mutual decision alternately in India or in Finland or through videoconference.

  • Participants or, upon their authority, implementing agencies, may set up project teams if necessary, to manage specific cooperative projects taken up under implementing arranGeMents.

  • This move comes in background of interest expressed by Govt. of Finland for co-operation in area of Space
