  • ROSHNI is technically & financially supported by UNICEF India. It serves as technical support unit at national level for DAY-NRLM & is embedded in Dept. of Development Communication & Extension, Lady Irwin College, New Delhi.

ROSHNI

  • India has made significant strides in improving maternal survival, many challenges still persist for women to achieve their development & economic potential.

  • Almost one in 10 girls marry too young, every 5th woman of reproductive age group is undernourished & every second woman is anaemic.

  • Model that brings much needed focus on women’s nutrition & that demonstrates layering of Food, Health, Nutrition & WASH (FHNW) interventions on DAY-NRLM platforms is Swabhimaan.

  • Swabhimaan makes last mile delivery of FHNW interventions, which is considered voluntary function for field mobilisers for too long.

  • Swabhimaan is a collaborative initiative of DAY- NRLM. It was launched in 2016. UNICEF India in 5poorest DAY-NRLM resource blocks in 4 districts of 3 Indian states Bihar, Chhattisgarh & Odisha.

  • Roshni aims to work w/women collectives for social action on FHNW interventions for supporting implementation of convergent action plan under POSHAN Abhiyan.

  • Roshni will learn from Swabhimaan & similar models & extend support to DAY-NRLM for expanding scope of FHNW interventions.

  • Centre will lead knowledge creation, capacity building for scale-up of convergent action plan, learning & re- learning in Swabhimaan sites & provide policy guidance to DAY-NRLM on POSHAN Abhiyan initiatives.

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM)

  • Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission was launched as Aajeevika - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) in 2011.

  • It envisions breaking cycle of malnutrition-illness- out of pocket expenditure for treating poverty thru its savings & enterprise approach & layering of Food, Health, Nutrition & WASH (FHNW) interventions thru Self-help groups (SHG) & their federations.

  • Since launch of DAY-NRLM, 5.39 cr. women are mobilized for SHGs & over 47 lakh SHGs are created.

  • 4 areas of convergence under POSHAN Abhiyan are –

    • Mobilization for fixed day health

    • Nutrition & WASH camps (Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Day)

    • Convergence thru behaviour change communication
