Mouma-Manika: First Indian Pair to Reach Quarterfinals in World TT Championships (Download PDF)

Manika Batra and Mouma Das pair have created history become the first Indian pair to reach the quarterfinals in the World Table Tennis Championship held in Dusseldorf. Previously the event was held in 2015 at Suzhou and in 2019 world TT championships will be held in Budapest.

Now this pair will compete with the No. 1 and 2 Chinese players, Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen in a next match.

About World Table Tennis Championships

  • The World Table Tennis Championships were organized from 1926 and the event is being organized after every two years since 1957.
  • This championship includes five individual events
  1. Men’s singles
  2. Women’s singles
  3. Men’s doubles
  4. Women’s double
  5. Mixed doubles

About Mouma Das

  • Mouma Das was born on 24 February 1984 at Narkeldanga, Kolkata.
  • She has started her career from world Table Tennis championship in1997 then she has participated in 2004 Olympic Games in the singles table tennis competition.
  • In 2013 she was awarded with Arjuna Award.
  • She also participated in 2016 Olympic Games.

About Manika Batra

  • Manika Batra was born on 15th June 1995 at Delhi.
  • She is the top-ranked female table tennis player in India till June 2016 and also ranked at 115th spot in the world.
  • She has won silver medal in 2011 at under-21 category of the Chile Open.
  • She also had won three gold medals at the 2016 South Asian Games.
