Composition

Comprises of

  • Chairperson
  • Vice-Chairperson
  • 3 full-time Members- including one lady member.

Functions

  • Investigate and monitor safeguards provided for the STs under the Constitution
  • Inquire into specific complaints on deprivation of rights and safeguards of the STs
  • Participate and advise on socio-economic development of the STs and evaluate the progress
  • Reports the working of safeguards to the President
  • Recommend measures to Union and State for implementing safeguards for STs
  • Discharge functions related to protection, welfare and development of the STs
