During the year 2015 - 16, the two Central Sector scholarship schemes for ST students ‘Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for ST students’ and ‘Top Class Education Scheme for ST students’ were merged into a single Central Sector Scheme called ’National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST students.

Scheme Eligibility

  • The scheme is open to candidates who belong to Scheduled Tribe and are pursuing higher studies such as regular and full time M. Phil and Ph. D degree in different fields.

  • The different fields include

    • Sciences

    • Humanities

    • Social Sciences

    • Engineering & Technology

  • There are 750 slots for Scheduled Tribe candidates every year for all the subjects.

  • In case of non-availability of adequate number of Scheduled Tribe candidates, the number of fellowship not availed during a year will be carried forward to the next academic session.

  • There is no state-wise ceiling on number of slots.

What is the Objective of the Scheme?

  • The objective of the scheme is to encourage the ST students (a section of society with the lowest literacy levels in the country) to acquire higher education in the form of fellowships to pursue M. Phil and Ph. D. Courses (full time).

Fellowship in Science, Humanities and Social Science, Engg. /Technology

  • @Rs. 25, 000/-pa for initial two years

  • @Rs. 28, 000/-pa for remaining tenure

SRF

  • Suitable single-seated hostel accommodation may be provided to National Fellowship for Higher Education JRF candidate in the Universities/Institutes/Colleges.

  • In case of non-availability of hostel accommodation, HRA as per rules of the Universities/Institutes/Colleges will be paid to the Fellow subject

Transfer of Fellowship

  • The fellow will be permitted to transfer the fellowship between universities and colleges under special circumstances.

  • The fellow needs prior approval of the UGC based on `No Objection Certificate’ from both institutes.
