National Teachers Day Observed on 5th September [ Current News (Concise) - ]

National Teachers Day is being observed on 5th September annually since 1962 in India, to celebrate birth anniversary of India’s first Vice President and second President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

To mark this day several programmes are organized in schools and colleges across the country to shape the lives of students and show them the path of success.

Along with India other 20 countries also celebrate a common Teachers’ Day on 5th October which are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, Macedonia, Maldives, Mauritius, Republic of Moldova, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, Kuwait, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia and the UK.

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888

  • Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in Thiruttani Madras Presidency during British India.
  • He was an Indian philosopher, statesman and 20th century scholars of comparative religion and philosophy in India.
  • He had extremely contribution in the new modern Hindu identity.
  • He respected teachers a lot because he believes that teachers are real nation builders.
  • He was the first Vice President of India and served from 1952–1962, again he was appointed as President of India from 1962 to 1967.

Awards and Honours:

  • Bharat Ratna in 1954 (first recipient Bharat Ratna)
  • British Royal Order of Merit in 1963
  • German “Order pour le Merite for Arts and Science” in 1954
  • The Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1961
