The ECI observes National Voters Day to ensuring universal adult franchise, increasing the enrolment of voters and encouraging participation of newly eligible young voters. It was instituted in 2011, in remembrance of the inception of the Election Commission of India in 1950.

  • 7th National Voter’s Day was observed on 25th January 2017.
  • State Government issues necessary instructions to educational institutions to observe National Voters’ Day, every year.
  • It is a momentous initiative taken by the Election Commission to sensitize future voters.
  • A citizen can be enrolled as voter when he or she is 18 years as on January 1 of the year electoral rolls are prepared.
  • A non-resident Indian can vote in his/her hometown after registering as an Overseas Voter.

  • Citizen can be enrolled as voter when he or she is 18 years as on January 1 of year electoral rolls are prepared.
  • Electoral rolls are revised once in five years as well as prior to an election.
  • Commission periodically does house-to-house enumeration.
  • The onus is on you to register as a voter.
