IAS officer Girija Vaidyanathan was today appointed Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. She is replacing P Rama Mohana Rao whose residence and office was raided by the Income Tax department. The Income Tax Department has carries out searches at over a dozen places in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

  • She is an officer of the 1981 batch of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) with a postgraduate degree in physics.
  • Serving as the Commissioner of Land Administration since the year 2013.
  • Was actively involved in the formation of rules for the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act of 2013.
  • Also held the position of Health Secretary of the state for one year in 2011 under the AIADMK government.
