Nawaz Sharif chequered history when it came to choosing anyone as a new general of the Pakistan Army. Nawaz Sharif chose Qamar Javed Bajwa as the successor of General Raheel Sharif. Then in 2013, he chose Raheel Sharif who has been in charge for the past 3 years.

India’s Stand

  • India is currently speculating on traits of Gen bajwa.
  • All Pakistani officers who reach the rank of general are experts on LOC because Kashmir is their jugular vein. Therefore, there is nothing special in it for Bjawa.
  • Special is that he commanded Pakistan’s x corps responsible for entire LOC and located in Rawalpindi –Islamabad complex.
  • The famous coup brigade of Pakistani army the 111 is part of this corps. In other words, Gen Bajwa is in good books of the Pakistani civilian government as also Army, a real tight rope walking indeed.

About Qamar Javed Bajwa

  • General Qamar Javed Bajwa was born on 2 January 1965 in Ghakhar Mandi, Bajwa.
  • He is a four-star army general in the Pakistan Army is taking up the post of the 16th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan army on 29 November 2016.
  • Bajwa commissioned in 1980 in the Baloch Regiment.
  • Previously he served at the GHQ as the Inspector General of the Training and Evaluation from 2015 to 2016.
  • Bajwa also served as a peacekeeper in the UN mission in Congo as a brigade commander.

About Raheel Sharif

  • General Raheel Sharif born on 16 June 1956
  • He is a four-star rank army general
  • Served as the 15th Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army.
  • Appointed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on 29 November 2013.
  • He retired on 29 November 2016
  • He carried out operations in North Waziristan, namely Operation Zarb-e-Azb that stabilized the North-west of the country.
  • He expanded the role of paramilitaries in Karachi, which is widely credited with reducing the level of violence in Pakistan’s commercial capital.
  • General Sharif also developed a new brigade-level military unit to help protect and secure the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which runs through Balochistan province.
  • He was perceived to be extremely hostile to India. Although, his uncle was killed in the 1965 war and brother in the 1971 one with India.
