Shashi Shekar Vempati has been appointed as the new CEO of Prasar Bharati by succeeding Rajeev Singh who is appointed as CEO at the place of S C Panga due this retirement. The appointment of Shashi Shekar Vempati was recommended by the three-member committee which was headed by Vice President. The other two members of the committee were Chairman, Press Council of India and the Secretary, Information and Broadcasting, who were also the President’s nominee.

  • Shashi Shekar Vempati will serve on this post for a period of five years
  • He is currently serving as a Member (part time) of the Prasar Bharati Board from February 2016.
  • Vempati is graduate from IIT Bombay.
  • He has reach experience in Corporate Management, Technology Consulting and Digital Media.
  • He also has worked at Infosys and also serve as Product Strategist and Digital Innovator in North America.
  • Vempati was also a Chairman of Audit Committee, Member of Finance and Accounts Committee, Technology Committee, Sports Rights Committee and HR Committee.
  • He has two patents under his name:
  1. “Real Time Business Event Monitoring, Tracking and Execution Architecture”
  2. “System and method for monitoring and management of inventory of products and assets in real time”.
  • He is also writer and has authors many books and some of well-known books are:

    • Broadcasting Technologies in India
    • National Digital Security Architecture in India
    • Creating a Global Media Platform out of India

About Prasar Bharati

  • Prasar Bharati is India’s largest public broadcasting agency was formed on 23rd November 1997.
  • It is an independent body which was developed under Act of Parliament and comprises Doordarshan Television Network and All India Radio.
  • In 1990 Prasar Bharati Act was passed by Parliament of India to grant this autonomy.
