New Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command (SNC) is Vice-Admiral A R Karve, he was serving as the Chief of Personnel at IHQ MoD (Navy), at Delhi prior to this appointment.

  • Vice-Admiral A R Karve is Indian navy officer and has joined the Indian Navy in July 1980 in Pune.
  • He has specialized in anti-submarine warfare in 1986 and has rich experience of 35 years.
  • He has held several important operational and staff appointments during his distinguished service both at sea as well as ashore.
  • Important assignments:
  • He had served as a command of the aircraft carrier INS Viraat and also had guided missile destroyer INS Ranvijay.
  • He had served as the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet and the Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Information Warfare & Operations).
  • He also had served on key positions like Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer (Western Fleet), Command Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer (Western Naval Command) and Chief Staff Officer (Operations), Western Naval Command.
  • Awards and Honours:
  • In 2013 he was awarded with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for his notable service.
