World Post Day is observed on October 9 every year to spread awareness related to the postal services and their role in the everyday lives of people and businesses. This day is celebrated by Department of Posts in India. For more than 150 years, India Post has been the backbone of the country not only providing postal services but also banking services.

  • Many countries arrange events to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
  • Highlight the importance of the postal services and create awareness about the role of the postal sector.

  • Headquartered in Bern, Switzerland. It has 192 member countries.
  • Specialized agency of the UN.
  • UPU coordinates postal policies among member nations
  • Sets rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations for the growth in mail, financial, and parcel services volumes.
  • Established in 1874, it is the second oldest international organization (International Telecommunication Union (ITU) established in 1865 being the oldest).
  • Universal Postal Union’s official language is French. English was added as a working language in 1994.
  • Helps ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services improving quality of service for customers and promoting growth of business.
