  • PM was selected for this prestigious award in recognition of his dedication for improving international cooperation, raising global economic growth & furthering development of democracy thru anti-corruption & social integration efforts.

  • It recognized PM’s contributions to growth of Indian & global economies, credited ‘Modinomics’ for reducing social & economic disparity b/w rich & poor.

  • It lauded PM’s initiatives to make govt. cleaner thru anti-corruption measures & demonetization.

  • It credited PM for his contribution towards regional & global peace thru proactive foreign policy w/countries around world under Modi Doctrine & Act East Policy.

Seoul Peace Prize

  • It was established in 1990 to commemorate success of 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul, South Korea.

  • It was established to crystallize Korean people’s yearning for peace on Korean Peninsula & in rest of world.

  • It is awarded biennially to those individuals who have made their mark thru contributions to harmony of mankind, reconciliation b/w nations & world peace.

  • Awardee receives diploma, plaque & honorarium of US $200,000.

  • Past laureates include distinguished global personalities like German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan & renowned international relief organizations like Doctors Without Borders & Oxfam.

  • 1st Seoul Prize awarded to Spain’s PM Juan Antonio Samaranch in 1990.

  • Before India’s PM, Prize was given to Democratic Republic of the Congo’s PM Denis Mukwege in 2016.
