Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) during his recent visit to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The scheme aims to provide apprenticeship training to over 50 lakh youngsters in order to create more jobs. It has budgetary outlay of Rs. 10000 crore.

  • NAPS - is implemented by Director General of Training (DGT) under the aegis of Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
  • Central Government for the first time will provide financial incentives to the employers to engage actively in apprenticeship training.
  • Central Government will also directly share 25 % of the total stipend (maximum of 1,500 rupees per month per apprentice) payable to an apprentice with employers.
  • It will support basic training which is considered an essential component of apprenticeship training.
  • The Central Government will bear the 50 % of the total expenditure incurred on providing basic training to an apprentice.
  • All transactions including registration by employers, apprentices, registration of contract and payment to employers will be made in online mode.

Eligibility Criteria

  • He/she must possess minimum age, educational and physical qualification prescribed for the trade
  • Apprentice must register on the portal.
  • Apprentice must have an aadhaar number.
  • Maximum age in respect of fresher apprentice shall be 21 years.

Reimbursement of 25 % of prescribed stipend subject to a maximum of Rs. 1500/- per month per apprentice by the Government of India to all employers who engage apprentices

Basic training by the Government of India to Basic Training Providers (BTPs) in respect of apprentices

Features of this Scheme

  • The Union Ministry of Skill Development has launched National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to improve the skills and training of young generation for future jobs.
  • The training program will be held in many institutes across the country.
  • The 5 million young generations will be eligible for this scheme to receive skill development training.
  • 50 % cost of the training will be beard by the government and also share 25 % of stipend given by training organisation.
  • The 2,30,000 students are getting training in the training institutions.
