PM dedicated Mohanpura Project to Nation. This project will facilitate irrigation of agricultural land in Rajgarh district on 23rd June. It will provide drinking water to villages in area on death anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee.

  • PM laid foundation stone of various drinking water schemes.

  • Mohanpura project is built on Nevaj River at cost of Rs. 3,800 cr.

  • Dam has 17 gates & will irrigate 1.35 lakh hectares of land.

  • Rajgarh in MP is drought prone region where farmers are dependent on rain for irrigating their land single crop farming.

  • Rajgarh district is among Aspirational Districts identified by Govt. , & development work will now be speeded up here.

  • 14 projects are being implemented in State under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. Emphasis is being given to micro-irrigation.

  • On 117th birth anniversary of founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee
  • He was a patriot who laid down his life for preserving unity & integrity of India.

Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee

  • Was born on 6th July 1901 at Kolkata.

Life Started as Educationist:

  • Graduated from Calcutta University he became fellow of Senate in 1923.

  • He enrolled as advocate in Calcutta High Court in 1924 after his father’s death.

  • He left for England in 1926 to study in Lincoln’s Inn & became barrister in 1927.

In Political Arena

  • In 1929, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee made his foray into politics for social service.

  • At age of 33, he became world’s youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University & held office till 1938.

  • From 1941 to 1942, he served as Finance Minister of Bengal Province.

  • He displayed his political genius & commitment to India’s unity by raising demand for partition of Bengal & Punjab at India’s Independence ensuring that half of Bengal & Punjab remained w/India.

  • In 1st Cabinet of Independent India, he served as Minister for Industry & Supply. Placing nation above politics, he resigned from govt. as mark of protest against Nehru-Liaquat pact.

  • 2 days before ″Nehru-Liaquat Pact” was to be signed in April 1950, he resigned from Cabinet in protest’.

  • He questioned Congress’ advocacy of those demanding break up of country…as legitimate free speech.

  • He questioned diff. yardstick being applied to those who want to dismember India & commit offence of sedition…while underscoring how this debate recently came to forefront during “Tukde Tukde” agitation at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

  • Dr. Mookerjee founded Bharatiya Jan Sangh in 1951, which became foundation of present-day BJP.

  • In his Parliamentary speeches, Dr. Mookerjee strongly advocated abrogation of Article 370 of Constitution.

  • He questioned how single country can have 2 constitutions, 2 prime ministers, & 2 national emblems.

  • He was arrested at Lakhenpur at Jammu while trying to enter state without permit, & put behind bars.

  • He breathed his last on 23rd June 1953 in mysterious circumstances. Dr. Mookerjee’s sacrifice continues to inspire crores of Indians.
