Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development subsumes Matritva Sahyog Yojana under which government would provide Rs. 5000 aid to pregnant and lactating mothers for the first live birth. The scheme was earlier named as Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana.

  • PMMVY Centrally Sponsored Scheme with cost sharing between the Centre and the States & UTs 60: 40, for North-Eastern States & three Himalayan States and 90: 10 and 100 % Central assistance for Union Territories without Legislature.

  • Providing partial compensation to workers for wage loss ensuring proper rest and nutrition.
  • Improving health of pregnant and lactating mothers reducing under-nutrition.

Benefits

The benefit amount to be sent through DBT mode with Aadhaar linkage. Rs. 5000 transferred to beneficiary’s bank or post office account in three instalments-

  • At the stage of early registration of pregnancy
  • After six months of pregnancy on at least one antenatal check-up
  • Registration of childbirth & first cycle of immunization of the child

  • Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) not be applicable to:
  • Regular employees of central or state government or any public sector undertaking
  • Recipients of similar benefits under any other scheme or law
