Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) has been launched to provide free health check-ups to pregnant women at government health centres and hospitals. This scheme was launched by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda in New Delhi.

  • Pregnant women will be given free health check-up and treated free of cost on 9th of every month.
  • Scheme will be applicable for pregnant women across all Government hospitals in India.

About Scheme

  • Applicable to the women in their pregnancy period from 3 to 6 months.
  • Women from semi urban, poor, and rural areas will be given benefits under the Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan.
  • Tests including blood pressure, sugar level, weight, hemoglobin test, blood test, and screening will be done at the medical centers.
  • PM invited doctors and medical professionals working in private healthcare sector to participate in the scheme and devote 12 days of free service per year to poor pregnant women.
  • Doctors will use different colors of stickers on the health cards of the pregnant women:

  • Applicable only for pregnant women.

    • Government and private hospitals
    • Private clinics
  • All kinds of medical checkups under this scheme will be completely free.
